When it comes to getting
good search engine positions for your website, there are
a few simple rules to follow:
- Make sure you take advantage of your niche.
If you have a product that is unique to your company you need to take
advantage of the fact that there will be far less, or zero, competition for
good search results relating to that product. Keep in mind that the success
of online marketing is based on the ratio of "quality hits"
against the amount of total hits you get to your website. For instance: If
you get 1000 visitors (hits) to your website per day but get no sales,
that's what is commonly known as "poor quality traffic".
The chances are that those hits didn't find exactly what they were looking
for and so left without buying. On the other hand, if you only get 50 hits
per day but get 2 or 3 sales per day, that's "good quality
traffic". Of course, if you get 1000 hits per day and 200 sales
per day, your online marketing strategy has been successful and you won't be
needing our services.
- Don't "Spam". Keep it real.
Getting hits to your website is easy. Some large websites are known to
Spam, although they will always deny it. They have programs that write web
pages in their thousands relating to all kinds of things so that when you
search for something, their website will appear in search engine results,
even though they will most likely not have what you are looking for. Whilst
they may indeed get an incredible amount of hits to their websites, the
traffic they get will most likely be poor quality.
Basically, your website should concentrate 100% on your products. Include
all the information you can find about your products and your company, and
put it on your website. Aim to provide enough information to answer every
question a potential customer might ask. The more information your website
contains, the more information search engines have to relate to your company
and the more hits you will get.
- Use "HTML tags".
It is important to include "HTML tags" in every page of your
website. The most important tags are the "Heading" tags in the
visible area of your page, and the "Description" and
"Title" tags in the <HEAD> </HEAD> part of your HTML
code. Another important rule when creating your pages is to use
"descriptive links". In other words, try to avoid using the old
"CLICK HERE" linking method where possible. Instead, make
sure you use "A BRIEF DESCRIPTION OF YOUR PRODUCT" so that
not only do people know where they are about to go to, but search engines
can also use this information to relate to the page you are linking too.
- View your logs.
Most websites come with website statistics including information about
data transfer, referrers, and total hits. There should also be information
about what "keywords" people used to find your
website. It's always a good idea to study these keywords to decide whether
or not these actually relate to your company and what you are marketing. If
they don't, changes will need to be made to the text and HTML tags in your
web pages.
